Welcome! Edit

Congratulations on starting Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri Wiki! It's a brand new project, so it needs a lot of love. Here are five tips to make your wiki great.
  • It's all yours right now -- enjoy it! Once your wiki takes off, lots of people will read what you write. Right now, nobody's looking over your shoulder yet, so feel free to try things out and make mistakes.
  • Make lots of short pages! The hardest thing about writing is looking at a blank page and not knowing where to start. It's a lot easier once you write down your first couple sentences. So take a deep breath, and jump in -- make ten really short pages, one right after another. Once you've started, you can build the pages up slowly, adding a little bit at a time.
  • Link your pages together! Links help you and your readers get from one page to another, so whenever you mention the subject of another page, use the "Add a Link" button to make a link to that page. You should also use the front page to link to all of the most important pages on your wiki. Describe what your wiki is about on the main page, and include links to help your readers find their way around.
  • Add pictures! A well-chosen picture can make a bland wiki page come to life. When you're writing a page, use the "Add a Picture" button to upload a picture from your computer onto the page.
  • When you're ready -- tell your friends! Once you've started a bunch of pages, linked them together and added some pictures, you'll be ready to start showing off your wiki to the world. You probably know people who are interested in the same thing that you are, so tell your friends to check out your new site. Those are your first readers and potential contributors, so give them lots of encouragement.

Have fun!

external links on main pageEdit

have you tried the link before reverting? the official site ( is not accessible anymore. making it available through the mirror was a service to all SMAC players. are you trying to make a service to the community of what?

I clicked the first one, and that one worked. I didn't click around to see that the rest were now reduced to strange errors. I used Google [1] to search their website and found pages still there, but having some strange HTML code errors about. So I added back in your mirror which has everything working except on the Technology page [2], where it has dead links if you click on anything in the Choose a topic: section. Hey Dream Focus, I'm a long-time fan of SMAC, and I've contributed a little to the wiki. I've found many of the things on here very useful and interesting. I have a question, however. You mention on your Yang page that he's immune to inefficiency. How do you know this? I still see the penalties on the Social Engineering Page. Is the screen lying to me, or is it just some sort of invisible feature or glitch?

Are you using the original SMAC or the Alien Crossfire version? Was something changed during a patch? My information was from the manual that came with the original game. Dream Focus 09:58, July 7, 2012 (UTC)
Also what Yang page are you referring to? Hive doesn't say that. He is immune to the -2 inefficiency for the police state option, while others are not. Dream Focus 10:07, July 7, 2012 (UTC)
Did you get the latest official patch? Are you using any fan made patch? Dream Focus 10:13, July 7, 2012 (UTC)

Hey Dream Focus, thanks for the response. I'm using the original SMAC, with the SMAC v.4 update from Firaxis Games

Also, the page I was reading was The Human Hive regarding the inefficiency bit.

Yeah that's an error. You can fix it. Anything on the with the /Sid_Meier's_Alpha_Centauri/ before it is what I imported from the Strategy wiki years back. I thought that easier than just writing out the information they got from the manual again. See [3]. Edit away as you see fit. Dream Focus 13:31, July 8, 2012 (UTC)

Duly noted. Thanks.

Civilization Wiki Edit

Hello, Mr Wiki Founder, Sir!

Until a few minutes ago I was not aware of the existence of this wiki. But at least one of your contributors is aware of the Civilization Wiki and recently helpfully edited a page of it (not about SMAC or SMAX but about another of the dozen games that are covered).

I wonder whether you were aware of the Civ wiki when you started this. It contains pages about your games but could have many more. If you ever feel like becoming part of a larger community of Sid Meier fans, a merger could be easily arranged, as has been done for the Civ4 and Civ5 wikis in 2010 and the CivRev wiki this year.

Kind regards

This Wiki has been doing fine for two and half years now. Plenty of articles created here for the series. No reason to merge it over. This isn't one of the Civilization games after all. [4] Dream Focus 12:15, December 28, 2012 (UTC)

List of Secret Projects pageEdit

Re: Planetary Transit

What difficulty do you play? On transend you get too many drones even in a small base. There is no point. —Preceding unsigned comment added by (talkcontribs)

I always play at the hardest level. If you play one of the faster breeding groups it might not matter as much. Dream Focus 20:37, April 26, 2013 (UTC)
I play with kyrub AI patch. It makes the game a lot harder. —Preceding unsigned comment added by (talkcontribs)
The information on the site is for the official game only. You can make an article for the Kyrub AI patch and write what differences in strategy and stats exist. That'd be some useful information for those wishing to try it. Dream Focus 13:47, April 29, 2013 (UTC)
